H.R. 5882 back on Judiciary schedule
H.R. 5882 back on Judiciary schedule
Date: Monday, September 22, 2008 8:20 PM
<<<<< JOB DESTRUCTION NEWSLETTER No. 1921 -- 9/22/2008 >>>>>
Last week a massive green card increase was scheduled to go through markup in
the House Judiciary meeting. Sept 17th came and went without any news about
what happened with the bill. I was hoping that the bills would be shoved aside
because all the Congresscritters were concentrating on the $700 billion Wall
St. bailout. Unfortunately that was wishful thinking on my part.
For reasons not known the Judiciary postponed markup until Tuesday, Sep 23,
2008. Tommorow the House Judiciary committee will work on the following
bills: H.R. 6598, H.R. 5882, H.R. 5924, H.R. 5950.
One bill is missing from the docket however: H.R. 6020, which would grant
amnesty to illegal aliens who serve in the military. Instead H.R. 6598 will go
through markup, which prohibits using horse meat for human consumption.
It seems very unfair for Congress to put over a half million Americans out of
work, and then arrest them for making stew out of horse carcasses!
What's a starving American to do?
The following is a summary of the bills going through markup tomorrow:
1) H.R. 5882 -- "recapture employment-based immigrant visas"; gives green
cards to 550,000 foreign workers and their extended families.
2) H.R. 5924 -- "Emergency Nursing Supply Relief Act"; lifts the cap for
foreign nurses and therapists until 2011.
3) H.R. 5950 -- "the "Detainee Basic Medical Care Act of 2008"; would require
the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to give full medical and mental
health care to all immigration alien detainees in DHS custody.
4) H.R. 6598 -- "Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act of 2008"; makes it illegal
for starving, unemployed Americans to eat horse meat. Dogs however can still
eat horse meat.
