Radio talk host and TV commentator Tony Brown sent out an interesting message about the Indian Caucus. I learned about this traitorous group of Congressinal rats just recently and did several newsletters that detailed their junkets to India, but Tony Brown has been publicizing them since 2001! Tony is incorrect that the India Caucus isn't on the internet, they just changed their name slightly and use a different web address. Here are some web addresses where they proudly announce their names:

http://www.indiapac.us/caucus.html

http://crowley.house.gov/issues/india.htm

Even more interesting is Tony's last paragraph on CAFTA. I don't get the Tony Brown radio show locally but I did send him a message that I would be happy to be a guest of his show if he featured this subject. If any of you would like to see CAFTA discussed on his show you may want to tell him why this is a subject that merits some media coverage.

In June 2001, I wrote a piece that included comments on the Indian Congressional Caucus of Americans. That name no longer appears on the Internet and I no longer locate the website of the special interest group of Congresspersons for India and Indian-Americans. However, the Bangladesh Congressional Caucus site refers to the Indian Congressional Caucus of more than 140 members of Congress (Rep. Benjamin Gilman, Co-Chair).

The members of Congress that I mistakenly referred to on WLS as Friends of India seem to still be around, but not under that name --at least not on the Internet. I am not sure how to define their role, but 141 members of Congress belong to the Congressional Caucus on India & Indian-Americans. You can get the details and names of founders at www.indiausa-sc.org/cci.htm.

Two years ago, I quoted websites and news articles (especially from newspapers in India on the web) to the effect that the Congresspersons in the caucus should be compelled to support every item in the Statement of Purpose and the Statement of Issues -- both of which contained priorities to shape domestic issues to benefit Indian-Americans. The Caucus Statement of Issues stated that members of Congress in the Indian Caucus should monitor public statements made by prominent officials concerning Indian issues. That is pretty standard fair for special interest groups.

A Congressional Caucus may be defined as a group of Congresspersons who represent a platform of a special interest groups in the US Congress, one of the highest decision making mechanisms in American government, the Bangladesh Congressional Caucus explained. (http://www.bangladeshamericafriendship.com/history.html). It also stated the mission of its recently-organized Caucus as one that can help Bangladesh and the Bangladeshis living in America.

It continued: Congressional Caucuses are so powerful in the policy-making processes in America that one cannot understand it, unless it is followed closely. For example: the strongest caucus is the Israeli Congressional Caucus. Everybody knows how powerful the Israeli lobby is in the USA. We do not need to speak more about that. Let us look at the nearest Congressional Caucus, i.e., the Indian Congressional Caucus. It is one of the oldest, largest and strongest Congressional Caucuses.

You can also visit US-India Friendship.net (www.usindiafriendship.net/congress/caucus/caucus.html) and read the following statement: The objective of this Congressional Caucus on Indian & Indian-Americans is to push the Indian-American communitys agenda on the hill.

For a list of members of the Congressional Caucus on India & Indian-Americans visit www.iacfpa.org/indiacaucus.htm. Another more detailed list is on the US-India Freindship.net (www.usindiafriendship.net/congress/caucus/members.html). Illinois members listed are: Judy Biggert (R); Luis Gutierrez (D); Mark Kirk (R); Ray LaHood (R); Donald Manzullo (R); and Janice Schakowsky (D). The Co-chairman is Congressman Benjamin Gilman (R-NY).

On the Underground Immigration Front. Is A Stealth Immigration Policy Smart? by Paul Magnusson (BusinessWeek, July 21, 2003) and Job Destruction Newsletter (www.ZaZona.com) provide details of how the special privilege H1B program for foreign computer professionals and engineers is being enhanced by another special visa program that guarantees jobs and an indefinite legal status in the U. S. for thousands of professionals from Chile and Singapore in all professional occupations (CAFTA). Standing in the wings for their turn for special visas and high-paying American jobs are 146 developing nations, led by India (which already gets over 50% of H1Bs) and China (second in H1Bs), in the World Trade Organization. The Bush Administration has similar plans for importing more foreigners with special status in trade talks with Australia, Morocco and countries in Central America.
