The Worker Amnesty and Opportunity Act of 2003 is sailing through both
the House and Senate with no significant opposition. Now the Bush
administration is getting onboard.
Representatives Chris Cannon (R-UT), Howard Berman (D-CA), and Senator
Larry Craig (R-ID) met with Presidential Advisor Karl Rove during the
week of the 10th of February to get support for their agricultural
guestworker-amnesty proposal. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) wasn't able to attend
the meeting, although he was scheduled to.
Flake was the creator of this bill so it's somewhat surprising that he
didn't attend. Could it be that he is grieving for the millions of
American workers that will be suffer because of his creation?
NOTE: Representatives Flake and Cannon are both members of the House
Immigration Subcommittee.
Many of the details of this proposal are still unclear, but the
proposal definitely includes an amnesty for illegal migrants that
allows them to obtain quick and easy work visas.
